Since its start in 1997, Fuji Rock has offered opportunities to consider how to switch to renewable energy sources and live together with nature.
Protecting the Environment -Fuji Rock's Efforts-

Since being held for the first time in 1997, Fuji Rock Festival has provided NGO's with time on stage, to appeal to festival goers on issues like the environment, world peace and human rights, and has created the NGO Village where organisations can introduce themselves to the festival audience.
The NGO Village has become a place for speaking about, and supporting, global themes such as poverty and world peace, through donations and messages of support.
Since 2005, efforts have been concentrated on global warming and energy, aiming to live in harmony with nature by converting to renewable energy sources and showing this through the use of biodiesel fuels and solar power within the festival site.

Since the disaster at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in 2011, in order to support a transition to renewable energy sources, Fuji Rock has given over a portion of the New Power Gear Field / AVALON area to The Atomic Cafe, a anti-nuclear event that was started in the 80's.

What is "The Atomic Café"?

Named after the movie, the event started in 1982, spurred on by the world-wide anti-nuclear movement of the time with the theme of, "Opposing Nuclear Weapons and Power Through Music".
Performers at the many events held at the time included Noriko Kato, Shogo Hamada, Ryudo Uzaki, Yutaka Osaki, the Blue Hearts, the Roosters, the Ecos(Jinsei Tsuji) and many from overseas musicians including Aswad and Billy Bragg.

A message from The Atomic Café"?

Since the disaster at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant in 2011, Fuji Rock has held live talk shows at the Gypsy Avalon stage in the New Power Field / Avalon area in the hopes of creating chances to consider a non-nuclear society. Themes include "living with nature" and "transitioning to renewable power sources" with guests such as journalist Soichiro Tahara and activist Aki Okuda along with this year's moderator, Daisuke Tsuda.

Friday, July 27th's theme is "Breaking with Nuclear Power". Major banks and investement groups around the world including the US have declared they will only invest in renewable power generation and the world has taken a turn towards the use of renewable power sources. As time goes by since the disaster the March 11th, the festival wants to once again remind festival goers of the reasons for transitioning to renewable energy with a talk show hosted by Daisuke Tsuda with comedian Hidetoshi Hoshida. Other guests include Rina Katahira and Brahman's Toshi-Low and musician Takeshi Hosomi.

The theme for Saturday july 28th is Japan's constitution. The word's "changing the constitution" have been thrown around in Japan for some time now but what exactly are we talking about? What effect will it have on citizen's everyday lives? These questions and more will be examined by guests including constitutional scholar Sota Kimura for a easy-to-understand talk about the future of Japan's constitution. Live acts will be Koichi Makigami and PIKA. Koichi Makigami, who performed at Fuji Rock 2012 as Godzilla Radiation Hikashu and PIKA from Afrirampo who put together the unit Taiyo 33 Osaka and held the Thanks to the Sun event in Osaka after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

Guests for Sunday July 29th include Tokiko Kato who's passionate talks centered on grassroots views at The Atomic Cafe are always popular and will concentrate on use of renewable energies and the Japanese constitution. Kato released a best of album in April and she'll also be performing live that day. Don't miss Tokiko Kato's passionate performance.

"The Atomic Café" ＠FRF'18 will be held at the Gypsy Avalon stage in the "New Power Gear Field / Avalon", where the whole area is powered by bio-diesel fuel and solar energy, and the NGO Village.
