Every year at Fuji Rock, we aim for a "Symbiosis of Music and Nature," and take steps to alleviate the effects the event has on the environment as well as participate in other conservational activities for the future of our planet.

Fuji Rock Forest Project

Many projects such as the "Enjoy the Forest" are in the works to protect the forest environment around the festival site.

NEW POWER GEAR

Shifting towards clean energy such as bio diesel recycled from oil waste.

Recycling within the Event

Plates and utensils with the least amount of environmental impact will be used and will be recycled into products that will be used the following year.

NGO VILLAGE

Introduce and support small NGO groups who tackle a wide range of issues following the theme of the year.

Fuji Rock Forest Project 2015

Fuji Rock Forest Project 2015

Many "Enjoy the Forest" projects such as the "Fuji Rock Paper" and maintenance of the "Boardwalk" are in the works with cooperation from the locals in order to maintain and protect the area around the festival site.

"Fuji Rock Paper" made from the forests around Fuji Rock

"Fuji Rock Paper" is made from cut timber as a result of forest maintenance in and around the Yuzawa area that would normally go to waste.
Timber from maintenance of the Boardwalk is also used to make the "Fuji Rock Paper" as a reminder to recycle what we can in order to revitalize the forest.
The Fuji Rock Paper is used for the "Festival Echo" free paper, flyers and official pamphlets. (Support : Chuetsu Pulp Kogyo)

The Boardwalk
"The Boardwalk" is made by everyone

Over 300 volunteers and locals gather every year at the Fuji Rock site to build and keep up the boardwalk which was created for those in wheelchairs to have a stroll in the woods. The "organic" path has been made without the use of machinery or chemicals and has been maintained by the support of many people.
While working on the boardwalk, the volunteers also work to maintain and preserve the forest in the vicinity.

<< Boardwalk Volunteer Camp!>>
"Boardwalk Camp" is an opportunity to camp on site and work on the boardwalk with other volunteers and locals. Many people have already taken part this year. Two more "Boardwalk Camp" events will be held before Fuji Rock this year.

NEW POWER GEAR

NEW POWER GEAR

Since 2005, Fuji Rock has aggressively incorporated clean energy such as biodiesel recycled from oil waste and solar power as part of their "New Power" at various locations around the festival.

Fuel from recycled tempura oil to reduce carbon dioxide emissions

FIELD OF HEAVEN、AVALON Recycled fuel is used at generators in certain areas of the Field of Heaven and Kids Land to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

NEW POWER GEAR
Solar Power is used at the Avalon Stage

The Avalon Stage was originally powered by solar power. Over the years, the stage grew and now uses both bio diesel and solar power but the PA is still powered by solar energy.

Keep Fuji Rock's theme song "Going Up the Country" by Kiyoshiro Imawano playing with the bicycle generator!

The rigorous physical challenge will be held once again this year. Keep Fuji's theme song playing with your power. Located at the NGO village, participants will receive original merchandise. Anyone who's physically confident should definitely stop by.

No Garbage Navigation

No Garbage Navigation

With the support of iPledge, volunteers and festival goers cooperate to recycle and reuse resources as part of the "Recycling within the event"

No Garbage Navigation
Plastic bottles recycled into garbage bags

The garbage bags that are distributed at the entrance gate is made from recycled plastic bottles from the previous year. The bottle that hydrated you one year becomes an original garbage bag the following year.

Paper cups recycled into toilet paper

The toilet paper in the porta potties within the site is recycled paper cups. With your support, we continue to recycle and reuse every year.

Plates and utensils with the least amount of environmental impact used

Every food and drink vendor on site uses plates and utensils made of non-wood pulp such as sugar cane waste, domestic thinned wood chop sticks that contributes to the regeneration of the forest and biodegradable plastic cups made from 100% organic materials.

Many other recycling projects have been executed in the past to raise awareness.

Plastic bottles to staff jackets

supported by THE NORTH FACE / MITSUBISHI MOTORS
Plastic bottles are recycled for fibers and are made into 2,000 staff jackets the following year. One jacket uses approximately ten plastic bottles. Approximately 20,000 bottles (500kg) of plastic bottles are recycled (2,000 jackets).

Chop sticks to wood pellets

Used chop sticks are recycled into wooden pellets used in stoves and boilers. Unlike fuel that releases high amounts of CO2, wood only releases the CO2 absorbed. An environment friendly fuel.

NGO Village

NGO Village

NGO Village

Fuji Rock has supported global environmental preservation groups such as "Future Forest" who plant trees all over the world and the international charity group Global Group whose goal is to stop global warming. In 2000, the "NGO Village" was started within the Avalon field to support not only the large global groups but the relatively smaller NGO groups who's focus ranges a variety of issues. Through a grass roots approach, their aim is to communicate "Social Issues" to the festival goers.
